A grey side street in Prague’s 10th district. People hasting to work in the morning, hasting back home in the evening, the same grim faces. The garbage van blocks the steep lane. We are the only colourful spot there. You want authenticity? Real life instead of the touristic hustle downtown? Have it. We’re a second-hand guesthouse in a second-hand street. No great views. Unless you follow our advice to go to the little winery in the gorgeous park around the corner, have a glass on the terrace above the vineyard and watch a great sunset… With us you will experience a Prague you had no idea about. Our subtitle says „History & Culture“: Books, videos, endless chats about politics, history, language, architecture, literature, religion, lots of information material, plenty of useful advice, individual city walks, and so on. We would like to welcome travellers who would like to know more about Prague than castle, Charles bridge and beer or who would like to come again because they got curious after their first visit. Thus, ARCO guesthouse does not only stand for accommodation, but for letting you experience an old and new Prague that you would otherwise not know about.
For years, I was an evangelist on Europe's ICT industry and research. But my real passions are history, politics, arts, literature, music, languages and movies. I'm originally Austrian but moved to Prague in 2007. I love to live here, delve into the country's treasures, its arts, history, music etc. and let our guests share these experiences. Since September 2015 I have had the chance to professionalise these passions by managing ARCO Guesthouse, a cosy little B&B in a quiet neighbourhood close to Prague's downtown with a strong cultural focus (Library, information, videos, walks etc.). Our street is not very conspicuous, but you will be surprised about the interesting neighbourhood. Walk up Donská street, turn left at the next corner and walk up to romantic Groebe Park, officially Havlíčkový sady. It has a grotto, a café and a winery, a beautiful wooden pavilion, located at a slope with a view and the vineyard right below it. At the corner of Donská and Krymská streets you find Plevel, a simple, good vegan restaurant which our guests recommend. Down Krymská street you find The Café v lese, a beer pub with mostly alternative live gigs. Turn right at Černomořská to bump into Café S adkovský, a pretty and friendly coffee ouse for all generations, alternative food and sometimes live music. On Francouzská street you bump into cosy Café Šlagr – gorgeous cakes! For traditional Czech cuisine walk a 150 metres farther uphill to find U Bulínu restaurant with good reviews and a nice interior. A small grocery with tram tickets is right around the corner of Donská and Voroněšská streets. Crossing Havlíčkový sady you get to a larger LIDL supermarket. You have a 24/7 grocery and convenience store at the corner of Francouszká and Uruguayská streets.
